England face an anxious wait to discover the results of the latest round of Covid-19 tests ahead of the Test series against Sri Lanka.

The entire touring party, including the 23-man player squad, have undergone a lateral flow and PCR test in Hambantota.

Results will be obtained from Wednesday (January 6) with any positives likely to throw the tour into deep uncertainty.

Additional testing was conducted after Moeen Ali returned a positive result for coronavirus, leading to him being forced to isolate for 10 days.

Close contact Chris Woakes is also in quarantine and will undergo further tests to discover whether he has contracted the virus.

Ali's positive surfaced after players had tested negative both before and after their chartered flight to Sri Lanka, which landed on Sunday (January 3)

As a consequence, Ali is a doubt for the first Test, due to take place in Galle on January 14-18.

The second Test takes place between January 22-26. The tour is rescheduled from last March when the matches were pulled as the coronavirus first took hold across the globe.
