Simon Hughes

Editor

Simon ‘Yozzer’ Hughes was a seamer who played 12 seasons for Middlesex and two for Durham. He had a Botham-esque bowling arm and was knocking on England’s door early in his early 20s. He then forged successful careers in journalism and television. He wrote the award-winning A Lot of Hard Yakka, and followed that with Yakking Around the World, Jargonbusting and Morning Everyone: An Ashes Odyssey. His latest book is Who Wants To Be A Batsman? In television he is known as The Analyst. He pioneered innovative, more technical coverage of the game as part of Channel 4’s Bafta-winning team (winning the Royal Television Society’s Sports Pundit of the Year award in 2002), and has transferred his skills to Cricket on Five. He is also a proud dad.

Jim Hindson

Managing director, CricketArchive

Jim has worked in cricket's commercial sector since the turn of the century. Before that, he had a professional career with Nottinghamshire and also in New Zealand. Loves to make clients happy. Hates to be told he's a tight Yorkshireman.

Huw Turbervill

Managing editor

Huw is managing editor and writer at The Cricketer after 15 years at the Telegraph. He wrote The Toughest Tour: The Ashes Away Series Since the War. After reaching the heady heights of Suffolk IIs, he has concentrated on writing, but still plays friendly stuff and wishes lbws were outlawed. He was also once run out by Mike Gatting in a charity match (“it was never out!”).

James Coyne

Assistant editor

James joined The Cricketer after working on six editions of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack. He recently returned from Latin America, where he was researching a book on cricket’s long and inglorious history there (plus sampling the coffee and tropical fruits). He can occasionally be found hiking towards a pub, sorting his compost in the garden, or throwing himself about on cricket pitches in Bedfordshire.

Geoff Barton

Art director

Over a twenty-year design career, Geoff has worked on magazines in fields as diverse as classical music, hiking, sailing and the countryside. He was a reader and subscriber of The Cricketer for many years before becoming its Art Director. In summer he can often be found hiking in the Swiss Alps, or enjoying the cricket and a beer at the St Lawrence ground.

Chris Smith

Finance & subscriptions manager

Chris has his mind on the figures and an in-depth knowledge on all things cricket and The Cricketer. Being with the company for four years Chris is well equipped to manage our accounts, clients and those all-important subscriptions with some writing thrown in too. A true allrounder who is trusted by all members of staff, there is not much that goes on at The Cricketer without Chris’ valued input.

Sam Morshead

Digital editor

Sam arrived at The Cricketer just in time for the Ashes in 2017 after a 20-month stint at the Daily Mail, having previously been on the books of the Press Association and the Swindon Advertiser. A middle-order batsman with way too much bottom hand, he proudly holds the record for the most sixes ever hit by a White Horse CC batsman and, away from cricket, is an occasional quizmaster, budding Italian cook and once upon a time scriptwriter.

Owen Riley

Social media editor

Owen joined The Cricketer in December 2015 following a work experience placement in the summer. A graduate from the University of East Anglia where he studied American History & Literature, a study abroad year led to a ‘History of Baseball’ class in San Francisco where he attempted to convince the tutor of cricket’s inner beauty, failing miserably, the Oakland A’s fanatic was not having it. A keen skier outside of the cricket season, Owen has fallen down mountains across three continents, working two full seasons in France & Australia.

Ed Krarup

Commercial executive

Ed joined The Cricketer in October 2018 having done work experience with the magazine whilst at university. His final year dissertation picked apart the spirit of cricket and whether it can be applied within the modern game. As part of his research, Ed spoke to Mike Brearley, Aleem Dar, and Peter Moores, amongst others to gain insight. Ed can sometimes be found on the pitch, throwing himself about when proudly representing his club, the Campaign for Real Gin CC.

Tom Blow

Customer service executive

Tom joined The Cricketer in November 2018 following a work experience placement the previous month. A History graduate from Leeds Beckett University (BA) and the University of Sheffield (MA), Tom’s keen interests are his beloved Sheffield United, making scrumptious chicken fajitas, and relaxing back up north with his two dogs, Lulu and Teddy. He’s also a trophy-winning football coach, helping his local side bring home the Under 11’s Cup last year. Here at The Cricketer, he’s widely regarded as the best No.3 in the office – just ask any of the team.
