The left-armer was the leading wicket-taker in last year’s competition, picking up 12 in nine games for Qalandars
Sussex seamer George Garton has joined Bangla Tigers for the upcoming Abu Dhabi T10 League.
The left-armer was the leading wicket-taker in last year’s competition, picking up 12 in nine games for Qalandars.
His signing means that five players from the Hove county will feature in the tournament, with Chris Jordan, Phil Salt, David Wiese and Luke Wright also taking part. Wright is captaining Team Abu Dhabi.
Garton’s call-up comes on the back of a terrific personal year, even in a shortened season. He starred for Sussex in the T20 Blast, leading the wicket charts with 14 in 11 games and also developing his batting.
He hit 101 runs at a strike rate of 116.09, including a match-winning cameo against Middlesex during which he hit Steven Finn for 22 runs in the penultimate over of a tight run-chase.
The fast-tracking of George Garton
Garton’s stock has been on the rise ever since being drafted in to train with England during the 2017/18 Ashes series in Australia. He spent time on trial with Rajasthan Royals ahead of last year’s Indian Premier League auction on account of his T10 success.
Among his colleagues at Bangla Tigers are Wiese, a Sussex teammate, and fellow Englishman Tom Moores. He is far from the only left-arm seam option, with both Mohammad Irfan and Isuru Udana also included.
