Somerset captain Tom Abell has joined Delhi Bulls in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

The 26-year-old, whose white-ball game has improved exponentially in recent seasons, is part of a squad also including compatriots Ravi Bopara and Adam Lyth, as well as Dwayne Bravo as the team’s icon player.

Abell’s rising stock saw him picked up by Lahore Qalandars earlier in January for the upcoming Pakistan Super League, while he was a second-round pick by Manchester Originals in the draft for The Hundred in 2019.

“It’s all happened pretty quickly and I’m excited to be involved in the tournament,” said Abell of his latest deal.

“It’s a great chance to apply everything that we’ve been working on over the winter and put it into practice in a different environment.

“It’s not a format that I’m too familiar with and I’m not quite sure what to expect, but you have to try and adapt. I don’t think that it will be too dissimilar to how you look to play T20 cricket and I’ll try to adapt the best that I can.

“I like to think that my white-ball game has come on over the last couple of years and this competition will test that to a potentially greater extent. It’s a challenge that I’m looking forward to.”

He is among several county cricketers involved, with 18 others contracted across the eight teams.
