KL Rahul will miss the rest of the Australia Test series with a wrist injury.

The India wicket-keeper-batsman suffered a wrist sprain while having a net and will return home for treatment.

Rahul is expected to undergo three weeks of rehabilitation before returning to full fitness, meaning he should be fit in time to face England in February and March.

A BCCI statement added that the 28-year-old will return home to India to undergo a further assessment at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

After playing a full-part in the one-day international and T20 series against Australia, Rahul had not featured in either of the Tests in Adelaide or Melbourne.

He was in contention for a recall - Rahul has not played a Test since 2019 - alongside the fit-again Rohit Sharma.

The series is locked at 1-1 after the tourists' eight-wicket win at the MCG.
