Former India batsman Sourav Ganguly has been admitted to hospital following complaints of chest pain.

The Woodlands Hospital said in a statement that Ganguly, 48, had suffered discomfort during a treadmill session. Tests later confirmed that he had suffered a mild heart attack.

Ganguly was said to be undergoing angioplasty and a doctor at the private hospital said that a medical board will be formed to decide the best treatment.

Ganguly – who was one of India’s most successful captains – took over as president of the Board for Cricket Control in India (BBCI) in 2019. That was said to be a natural progression for someone who helped India out of a match fixing scandal back in 2000.

Virat Kohli wished one of his predecessors a speedy recover on Twitter, saying: “Praying for your speedy recovery. Get well soon @SGanguly99.”

“I wish and pray for the speedy recovery of @SGanguly99. I’ve spoken to his family. Dada is stable and is responding well to the treatment,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said on Twitter.
